TJ Wright, aged just ten, has been acting since he was four, appearing in various TV ads and stage productions, as well as an episode of MacGyver and the short film Soiled Roots.

It’s the young actor’s most recent role however, which has earned him widespread attention, as he stars in the film adaptation of The Hate U Give, based on Angie Thomas’s award-winning YA debut inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Wright plays Sekani, younger brother to Amandla Stenberg’s protagonist Starr, in the hard-hitting thriller, released in October, and is already garnering praise from critics for ‘emphatically proving the YA genre has room for much more than magic and romance’.
